Communities In Schools of Putnam County is the lead agency in Putnam County for the Governor's Mentoring Initiative.

The Governor's Mentoring Initiative is an effort to recruit 200,000 Floridians to become mentors.

Building off the wonderful volunteer efforts begun by General Colin Powell with America's Promise and in coordination with state agencies, businesses, nonprofit associations, and Florida schools, this initiative is designed to help students excel in school.

Right now, there are thousands of children in Florida waiting to be matched up with a mentor. These kids are already in danger of failing or dropping out of school. The sad truth is that there are not nearly enough mentors.

Governor Jeb Bush initiated this program based on his own experience as a mentor.
